Daddy vs Baby: Day One.

Daddy 1 Baby 1!

Things started at a nice typical pace. 10 minutes after mommy leaves Hector wakes. Breakfast is the usual struggle but I get in a little yogurt and cereal. I call it a draw.
We head out to the library. I change his diaper but leave him in his pj's thinking that he'll be down for his nap in an hour and a half anyway.

This is hubris.

On our return home Hector polishes off a whole jar of custard. (I wasn't taking any chances that he'd turn his nose up at lunch). But there was no sign of tireness or nappage-- except for the slow build of crankiness.
1pm: the formula is rejected. Hec starts baby sign languaging for "Milk". He climbs off his mattress and starts touring the house looking for Mommy. She is no where to be found. I try all the tricks. The tears are building.
But the ergo baby carrier saves my butt on Day 1 of the End of Maternity Leave. Five minutes of walking around the apartment and he's out. I even manage to lay him in his bed and untangle him from the carrier without waking him up.

This may be the greatest day of my life.
